Bolivian combis are happy to pick up anyone but will never embark on a journey until the van is cram packed with paying customers... saying this we finally got on the way after gently persuading some locals that they really really wanted to take our van over the 5 hundred others all with drivers screaming their intended destinations at the tops of their voices.
In hindsight I probably should have set off earlier considering the site was over an hour away and by the time we reached it it was already gone 4pm and the ticket office had shut (oops). Not to be deterred I bargained with the guard who initially offered that we could look around the museum and managed to get in with the allowance of a mere 40mins at the ruin, which was better than nothing considering how long it took to get there and the simple fact that I would defo not be coming back this way.
Hailed as the most important of Bolivia´s ruins I have to admit going all that way just for a crummy door and a totem pole was a little disappointing. The return journey to La Paz however made the day all worth while with some fantastic views of the volcanoes surrounding the area and a truly awesome view of La Paz overshadowed by its guardian mountain Illumini by night.
