November 18, 2009

I was blessed to be able to drive to Niagara Falls from Buffalo, NY on November 18, 2009. It was a short drive and did not know what to really expect. I arrived, parked, got a map and walked. As I was walking through the state park, I could hear the rushing sounds of water rapids flowing vigorously. I walked closer and finally saw the rapids from the lake. It was a great sight to see! I followed the rapids along the shore and all of a sudden saw where the rapids were ending—a drop at the end of the lake. I rushed to look over and there it was—the American Falls! Oh, it was breathtaking. I couldn't believe the sight! The rapids were quickly flowing down with such an enormity that when it reached the bottom, the water would splash and turn into mist that would rise in the air. I took pictures quickly. I couldn’t get enough of what I saw. I walked toward the observation deck, climbed, and saw it from a distance. I took more pictures and videos. The sound was so beautiful and the sight was just breathtaking. I truly felt blessed that moment and I was in such a high mood—nothing could explain the euphoria I was experiencing. How could someone not believe in God? How does science create what I was seeing? People get it straight? I looked at my map and ventured to the other side to see the "Horseshoe Falls." I found them and they were beautiful as well; however, the sun was blinding and it was hard to see all around. I walked some more and followed a path and I am glad I did. I found myself on the other side of the American Falls. As I was walking down some steps I saw a rainbow! A real rainbow coming from the falls! All different colors! It was so beautiful! I have to say that this was the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my entire life. The colors of the rainbow; the vastness of the water rushing down making my heart beat with adrenaline; and the sound of nature that God created. THEN; Oh, my camera was low on batteries that I had just replaced and my memory had a few more pics to take! I took as many pictures as I could. I even took out my phone to take pictures. I walked more and enjoyed every second.

I had such a good time, I decided to wait till the sun would go down and I could have another view and take even better pictures in the evening. I strolled the park; looked at my map; bought gifts; talked to different people. The sun finally was going down, so I made myself back to the falls and I noticed the observation deck was closed. I ran into some people and they told me to walk across the Rainbow Bridge to Canada and get the other view of the Niagara Falls. I asked  him what I needed, and the man said, just your passport. I went back to the car and got my passport. It was getting dark, but I wanted to see it. The man told me the beauty of the falls at night and how the different color lights are illuminated against the falls. As I was walking on the bridge, I was really going to cross the border. I still felt a high in me. I was a little frightened because I was leaving the country and I had texted one person. As you can see from the pictures, “once I crossed over,” I was in Canada. I was no longer in the US. NOTE: To not be in the US and especially walking in the dark is an experience in itself, even though the US is only 500 feet to a mile away. If anything happened, you are not in the US anymore and will be treated as a foreigner. I had so many thoughts. “Where was this in my dark days?” I thought to myself. I then chuckled after that thought because of my growth from those days to today and even my growth from 10 years ago to today and how God has great plans for me. “Look where I am at? Even though I am not perfect and made mistakes and even though there is a piece missing in my heart, I stayed strong and am being blessed. “God knew I needed all of this to heal my spirits; to make me have a new and healthy life; to be grateful and blessed. Again, where is science in all of this?

After all my thoughts, I made it across the bridge after being asked many questions from the border patrol people. I looked for a store to buy batteries, so I walked into a hotel with a casino. I just wanted to buy batteries. I found a gift shop, they were expensive.  As I was about to pay for the batteries, the man looked at me and said, “uh, we do not take American money or American visa cards.” I was like, “seriously!” so I had to keep walking until I found a Starbucks! Yes, a Starbucks that actually sold batteries for people like me and took American Visas. I was happy to see the Starbucks. Only Starbucks! It was dark and cold and I was on the other side of the US. I could still see the US. I walked through the Canadian part of the park and saw the falls from this angle. It was beautiful! It was exhilarating! It was different! It was worth the walk! The people were right! The different lights illuminated against the falls! I took more pictures of course. It was getting late and I needed to get back. I had a long walk back. I crossed the bridge. Got asked many many questions. I was nervous, but they let me across. I stepped into the state of New York and I was happy to be back in the US. I kept looking at my picures. It was perfect.

To be alone was fun; but to take someone next time would be even better. There is nothing like sharing a beautiful moment like this one!  Like in the Bible, "two are better than one."

"If i will listen to His (Jesus) voice and let him set the pace, if i will cooperate in my transformation, I will be a much happier person..and so a new prayer has begun to rise..." (pg 28 Walking with God)

Thanks Dian for the book suggestion...

An absolute memory! Enjoy my pictures everyone!

I got back to the hotel, and after a long day of excitement; i got extremely homesick! too much excitement i guess!
