so after two weeks in costa rica, i finally got my visa from the smug little man in the colombian embassy - the least of my worries though since i was so happy to finally get it! the waiting time was actually pretty good though - I met up with a friend from the music festival ( a couple of weeks before), Juan- Jose (he's a great sax player), and we had a few nights out - notably 2 to a fab place called the Jazz Cafe which hosts live music every night, great atmosphere - and all that a place which calls itself the Jazz Cafe should be! we saw a show called Divas - ooooh baby! three fantastic women with incredible voices belting out solid and very well chosen songs - i was totally in awe. We also went through for a drumming session with a senegalese guy who has trained up a band of Costa Rican guys - they could all have been african, great playing.
I also spent an evening with Juan jose and his older brother, Patricio, and their dad - a big and burly Ecuadorian - chatting about music, my project - and swopping lots of tunes :-) i think i left there with 4 dvds filled - happiness! fantastic chats about south america, and south africa - always a subject I'm happy to chat about!
and then, finally, it was off to Colombia...
