I arrived in Tegucigulpa, the capital, yesterday afternoon and, being unable to continue to my intended destination of San Pedro Sula due to a strike or demonstration of some kind on the highway, I spent a pleasant afternoon strolling around the city centre and ended up at a place called Duncan Maya (pronounced Dooncin) for dinner - imagine a cross between Bob's bar in Long Street (for those of you who know Cape Town) and a large American diner, with Spanish Country & Western music yodeling out of the speakers and Christmas lights flashing frantically out of time - if there is such a thing as being "in time" to Spanish country & western music.... After successfully fending off some primitive grunting type come-ons from a local fellow (difficult to resist but I managed) I met a couple of very well-mannered chaps (with the rare names of Carlos and Jose) and had a drink with them. When I failed to understand what Jose's occupation was in Spanish, he kindly translated into English and told me he was a "liar" ... which I eventually understood to mean "lawyer" (!) - I took pains to attempt to explain the difference.....
