What I did
OSMENA PEAK - KAWASAN FALLS
Traverse means to travel across or through. So when one of my office mates invited this one of a kind event, I got so intrigued and my excitement will somewhat burst! LOL So, I nodded right away for a big YES! And packing up my things for something to bring. This is not my first time to do a mountain climbing; it is my second time actually. They said that the second time around is sweeter. hehehehe..... And this is not a new thing for me though, because I have lived in Bohol for a year, to where my mother came from. The place itself is very rural, mostly surrounded by mountains .BUT, sad to say I don't have shoes for mountain climbing or trekking. I haven't buy because I never plan of my life that I will climb mountains someday because I am more into beaches. So, I promised for myself that I should buy at least a pair of trekking shoes. So, by the time that I will be invited again, I am so ready for this activity.
The destination that will be going to is Osmena Peak, located in Dalaguete,Cebu and is Southeast of Cebu province. Mostly people said that this place is known as the "little Baguio of Cebu" because it has a very cold weather actually. And yes, I saw many pine trees! Feels like I am in Baguio City already! haha... Upon going to Dalaguete,Cebu, we rode a bus and paid a hundred bucks for the fare, and it took us 2 hours upon arrival. It's my first time in this place. I always love first times. Soon as we arrived on the place, we ate first our very late lunch and bought foods for something to eat and to be cooked for our dinner. After this, we started our trek and I really like doing it because I can feel the cold weather around us! So cool! And, while doing the trek, I am having a hard time catching my breath, because this was my comeback of doing such activity like this. Good thing was, I always have my bottle of water! As we trek, amazing view we have seen, there are plenty of vegetable around us being planted, fresh air, and also children playing around their houses. Even though the place is somewhat a remote area, there are also people living in here. And mostly of their livelihood is planting vegetables and if the right time comes for the harvest, they sell it to the market. Very simple, if these people are industrious enough, they will earn money for them to survive.
After hour of trekking going to our main destination, I felt relief because my patience is worth my sacrifice. Osmena peak here I am! I was so amazed with the very beautiful view and I saw mountain ranges and of course the beach!!! FYI - Osmena Peak is the highest peak in Cebu! And yes, I made it! Congrats to me!!!! haha
Of course, our never ending taking of pictures is always there, striking our very nice pose for memories. We saw the sunset, took pictures by the sunset and then we went to our tents! Some of my colleagues, cook food for our dinner, and a drinking session just for a while, and then we slept already. Oh no,as we sleep, very cold weather we felt, me and Brooke my tent mate were shaking all over! Charge to experience! haha
The next day, I really expected fogs will be all over around us, but luckily for us no fogs at all. It rained for a while, and the we packed up our tents and started our another trek because we will be traversing to Kawasan Falls, located in a nearby town of Badian,Cebu! FYI - Kawasan Falls is very known also in Cebu, not just locally but to tourists as well. Badian,Cebu is located in the Southwest of Cebu! Imagine, from Southeast to Southwest. YES!!! We did it! I did it! That is the power of traversing a place! hahah....cool isn't it? LOL
We did stop overs, to rest for a while. Look for waters of course and also to eat to feed our hungry tummies! We were guided by mountaineers, and they became our friends. They were so friendly and gentlemen! hehehe.... Our trek took us 4-5 hours going to our end point. I must say that was so tiring, so hard for me especially during the trek because I am not wearing shoes that I am comfortable with. Good thing, I brought with me my slippers. My hardships, my sweats, my thirst, paid off when I saw the first falls of Kawasan!! i just can't believe it, because I sacrificed a lot during the trek, I know that after this activity, my whole body will be cramping the next day! i don't care! Because my sacrifice paid anyway. Thank you LORD! :))
We ate our dinner, and then start another hour of walking going to the 2nd and the last falls and then to the highway where we can ride a bus going home! It was dark already when we started, kinda scary but no worries for me, were a group together.
We were happily riding in a bus heading home. My colleagues are sleeping except me. haha...
Such a memorable experience. And I want to try it again because it is so much fun, because you only got to experience also the wonder of nature! TRAVERSE? IT'S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES!!!
