On arrival in Carirns we took the opportunity to relax and enjoy the fabulous weather. It has a beautiful esplanade with pools and a man made beach along the promenade as its dangerous to swim in the sea here due to marine stingers (Sting of a box jellyfish can kill in 30 seconds!)

We booked a diving liveaboard trip and took in the sights and sounds of this partying city. Lots of bars with special offers like a free dinner if you buy a drink and surprisingly the dinners were excellent.

Watched the opening ceremony of the olympics with hundreds of other people in the Reef casino where the atmosphere was cracking. Absolutely amazing discipline and wonderfully entertaining. Boy can the chinese put on a show!

Found irish pub showing replays of the championship and was distraught to see Armagh lose to Wexford.

Found a salsa club in town and one night Salud got a couple of dances in. The place was packed with international visitors.

Hired a car and visted pretty Port Douglas and its busy open air market, did some trekking through Mossman, its fine gorge with swinging bridges and creeks and enjoyed the beaches and wildlife around Cape Tribulation.
