. He asked me if I wanted to go back to his room for a drink and to get to know eachother better. He said a few other things that I don't care mention that made me pretty sure he looking for a good time. I don't know why this only happens to me. I seriously must look gay. My second and last day in Townsville was spent doing the tourist thing. Me and Myrium went to the underwater Townsville Aquarium. The aquarium is a miniature version of the Great Barrier Reef. If you don't have your diving certification this is a much cheaper way to see what's swimming in the reef.
I took the ferry from Townville to Magnetic Island the next morning. Magnetic Island is a tiny island 8 kms off the coast of Townsville. It covered in tropical rainforests, 21 different bays and beaches, and is filled with some of Australia's coolest animals. I arrived there at ten in the morning only to realize that nobody is there. Nobody is a slight exaggeration, but other then about 15 backpackers, a few retired folk, and the staff working at the backpackers hostel the place was empty. I went to the beach and say there by my lonesome for a good two hours before seeing a young couple. The first day included me sitting on the beach, sleeping on the beach, walking along the beach, and finally going for a short swim at the beach. The lack of people on Magnetic Island made me a little concerned after a while
. It's hard for me to understand why a place so perfect could be so empty. Whatever, who needs people anyway. Doing nothing all day gets you really tired, so I went to bed at around 8:30. I woke up to what seemed like every bird in Australia at my window chirping, yelping and doing whatever else noise they do. First thing in the morning I figured I'd go for a stroll through a wooded area. This turned out to be a big mistake. I mistakenly set foot in an area inhabited by a yellow headed bird that's very protective of her nest. Little did I know, this crazy bird lays its eggs on the ground. Anyone she sees near her nest is a threat to her babies. Without warning, like a bullet this screaming mama headed full speed at my face. Over and over again she flew at me making screeching noise. I hit the floor hoping that no one was watching. I made a run for it and eventually made it a safe distance from the flying devil. Stupid birds! Myrium happened to be on the island later on that day. She gave me a call and we trekked around the island seeing all it has to offer. It took most of the day to get around it. We were lucky enough to see Wallabies, Koalas, and tons of other wildlife. By evening we hooked up with a few others for a few drinks and to bet on toad races. My toad was always the slowest but I didnt care cause I only spend four bucks on him. After two full days on Magnetic Island I'd seen it all. The ferry docked in Townsville at 10:30 AM. This meant that I had three hours to walk from one end of the town to the next to catch my bus to Mission Beach. Two hours and fourty-five minutes later the grulling walk was over. I was drenched in sweat, my shoulders felt like they had colapsed from carrying my 120 pound backpack, food bag, shoulder bag, and day pack. I was all set to hop on my bus only to realize that I walked to the wrong bus station. The bus station I was suppossed to be at was at the ferry terminal where I orriginally started. I called a cab, and twenty dollars later I barely made it to my bus in time. Next stop Mission Beach, Cairns, The Great Barrier Reef, and the World Herritage Rain Forest.
I left Home Hill as soon as I finished work there. I was so done with that place! I booked a hostel in Townsville called Reef Lodge Backpackers and set up base there. I had so much ground to cover, and just over a week to do it all. I got together with Sweedish Erik and Canadian Myrium as soon as I arrived in Townsville. After checking-in the three of us climbed the Townsville mountain. The reward for the not so long trek is the amazing look-out at the top of the mountain. The view covers the entire city and the surrounding islands. Definitely a worthwhile climb! Night activities really didn't differ from anywhere else. The three of us hooked up at my hostel for a few drinks and called it a night. One disturbing Incident occurred that same night when Myrium and Erik left. A drunken Aussie guy stumbled back to the hostel after what appeared to be an expensive night at the pub. The young drunk took notice that I was the only one awake at this late hour. he confidently approached me and made a pass at me
