I figured after poisoning my organs for several straight days it was time to take it easy. My travel partner Sonja had so much to drink that she barely had the energy to be a passenger the next day. She was sick all day. She is really one of those girls that drinks, regrets it and does it again the very next night. I tell you, these south africans really dont know their limit.

I was promoted to driver for the long haul to Christchurch. Its a 5 hour drive if you do it straight. After driving for about an hour and a half we came upon this tiny town that had penguin advertisements everywhere. I had to stop! I've never seen a penguin before, and wasn't about to pass up this opportunity. While Sonja slept away the day, I spent time watching movies waiting for 6pm when the penguins make their first appearance. A few yellow eyed penguins make their way up the beach everyday at around 6pm. This viewing was a major disappointment. All I saw was one penguin laying in the bush doing nothing at all, and one sea lion maybe 100 feet from the viewing point. The 9pm viewing was incredible! It was $13 to see the penguins with a guide. Everyday at 9pm a couple hundred of these blue penguins swim up the shore, and march several hundred feet onto land. I could not get enough of these guys. I was the last one of the group observing these little creatures as they slowly marched up the beach for their nightly rest. I was told not to take pictures as it scares them, but it's my trip so I did anyway. I'll upload some next chance I get.
