Oh my God, 7am flights are far too early! We were up before 5.30 to get to Viru Viru airport in Santa Cruz. When we got there all went smoothly for us (except for me forgetting to put my Swiss Army Knife in my hold luggage - I must collect it next time!) but for Kat it was a nightmare. Her flight via Miami was cancelled because of hurricane Frances. Thankfully she has now managed to get home.

We flew with AeroSur via Cochabamba and it was a pretty uneventful flight with a snack breakfast served in a dainty little paper bag! In La Paz we caught a taxi from El Alto (the highest International Airport in the world) into the city. The traffic was an absolute nightmare. We stayed with Hazel whilst she got checked into her hostel then found a place for Salte˝as for breakfast. To go with it we ordered Submarinos, hot milk with chunks of chocolate to stir in. Then we had to find our way to a bus to Copacabana.

The bus stop is near the cemetery and we saw lots of flower sellers but never witnessed any of the "professional" mourners we have heard about who are paid to wail on demand! The bus journey took around 4 hours and had a crossing over to the peninsular on Lake Titicaca. The bus went on a barge whilst we took a motor boat to the other side.

Copacabana was full of Gringos as expected, and we found a room in the hotel we wanted - La C˙pula. The rooms were excellent but, because we hadn't booked we had to change rooms after the first night. Bearing in mind the lake sits at an altitude of 4000m, a room without heating for the second night was not really what we wanted!
