I slowly wake up, due to the random noises here and there, and the little voices of children.
I finally gather up enough energy to open my eyes, but still it is hard. I have to pry then open to due to the sickness.
When my eyes are finally open, I see eyes, eyes everywhere. Starring at me. Wanting something, yearning for more, whatever that might be.
At least 40 children are there, surrounding my bed, protecting me. My little protectors, there for me. They have brought me the meal that I missed, due to my weakness I can't walk very well and I slept through the meal.
They describe to me each thing on the tray, each food item. Although I already know what everything is, I react as if I don't. I am very thankful for everything they have done and everything that they continue to do. They treat me as family, because I kind of am. I brought them gifts, daily things that they need, they have given me in return love, hope, and laughter. They are the most beautiful people I have ever met. They hold my hand at all times, and even sometimes fight over my mere 2 hands. I wish I had more. I wish I had enough hands for everyone to hold one, or even two.
They are so brave, they have lived through losing parents, losing brothers, sisters, and sometimes worse. The shoeless, motherless children smile.
I don't like being away from my family, my friends, even my acquaintances, some of these children are always feeling that.
As I take my camera out and the shutter clicks, children gather like little magnets and I am the biggest. At first I take a picture of one child, then 5, then 20, then the entire school is by my side. They love seeing what they look like, who they are. It is such a thrill to have all of the children surrounding me, but at the same time it is very disheartening. They are not fish that school that like, they are humans. They have not been taught the correct, or proper way to act. They do not have parents.
The children are raised by love, by hope, by you and by me. They learn from what they see, and they say what they have heard. Their minds are different from you and I, their minds are much greater. They are capable of such great things but they just don't see it in them themselves.
