Hey people!!we got here safe!we are now in sri lanka, i think this is our 2nd day here, but not 100% sure! i already sent out an email with the address of this website so that y'all can check for updates, but i think it might not have worked, so i will send it out again, and apl#ologies if i have sent it twice!
the plane ride was long...(10.5 hours, but we had a window seat which was nice.) when we landed we went straight to the train station and got the 3.5 hour train ride to the city of kandy! where we are now! kandy sounds like such a yummy place (at least to americans like me coz we eat candies not sweets!), and it is pretty beautiful but the train rtide was not! it was packed, so packed, there was hardly even room to stand!!!!!!a nice introduction for dennis! and we were so tired and hungry. but about half way here everyone got off the train which was cool, and then a nice man started talking to us and telling us where to take pictures of the 'vistas' and even boutght us sugar cane sweets!!!!wow!do i remember something from my childhood about never accepting sweets from strange men?lol! our hotel when we eventually got there was really nice, there was only 1 cockroach in the curtains, not too bad, and we had hot water and mosquito nets!woo!
this morning we wanted to get the bus to the elephant orphanage about an hour's drive, but were eventually convinced by another nice man to go in his taxi with him, which we did (wasnt there something about strange men and cars as well?) but it was fine and much easier than catching 3 different busses! the elephants were sooooooooooooo cool! we rode on one! hopefully pictures soon (forgot the camera cable - oops). ours was called pooja and was the 1st elephant born in captivity in sri lanka! there was 1 elephant with only 3 legs coz one was blown off by a landmine! felt really sad for it! another male that was on heat was tied up and not allowed to go near the others...it got really angry at bathing time in the river and we thought it was going to kill a boy! but it didnt, it just lay down and let him scrub him eventually!
so much else to say but wont now - dont want to bore you! tonight we're going to see kandyan dancing with the same man...oh yeah, we also went to a traditional medicine and herbalist garden - woz funny, they had cures for everything, including a potion to 'make the plumpy figure slim and muscular'...was quite tempted!
tomorrow we're heading to ella, which is meant to be a beautiful village up in the hills, and from there, to the beach! woo!

Excellent! Now I can can bark at you from wherever I am (boiling countryside in Italy)to wherever you are!!!
Loved the stories about Bob, the worms and the elephants and yes, there was also something about not taking lifts with strangers, I knew I should have had a word with you before you left!!! I thought you were planning to stay in India but I guess your plans are flexible at the mo, which is a good thing, important thing is that you are happy and safe. Well, I seem to be the first to post a comment, how typical of me to be be the first to dispense my opinion whenever there's an opportunity! I will keep an eye on this travelogue and keep sending my best vibrations to you. Needless to say, I miss you loads!
