Finally though, we found ourselves in good ol' San Francisco! With time to spare before we could head to the apartment we'll be calling home for the next week, we headed to the first (and most recommended) activity on the list of Mars' San Fran favourites. The Lands End trail complete with $1 self guided walking tour! Once a thriving estate that held the worlds largest indoor swimming complex, as well as a ferris wheel and other assortment of public attractions, now is full of cliff edge trails and walkways that truly offer the best view of the San Francisco coast line and a pretty damn good lookout (fog-ridden as it was) across to the bridge. Words can't adequately describe the beauty of the stark contrast between the ocean waves (the first real waves we've seen on any part of the bloody California coast) crashing against the rocks, vast greenery and huge black trees towering above us, the sun in the distance shining brightly through the thick white fog, out the top of which you could see the fiery red tips of the famous Golden Gate Bridge. Also saw a wedding party & met some charming Americans who, as per usual, knew nothing of Australia except that we have huge-ass spiders who 'attack' people as if they're some form of rabid dog. Silly, silly folk. Now it's off to the Cliff House to grab a beer and watch the sunset (also per Mario's recommendation). Our theories that San Fran will be the more active but equally as chill section of this trip are already proving so very true. Bring on the beer!
Update: Just arrived at our San Francisco apartment (by way of a ridiculously frustrating detour across a 6 mile bridge & back) and HOLY HELL THIS PLACE IS AMAZEBALLS. I can't stress that enough. Fancy as all hell, 2 entire walls are glass, there's a patio full of couches and we have a view of the super duper long Bay Bridge and out over the city all the way to Silicon Valley. Oh my pancakes. I cannot repeat enough times just how much I love my life right now!
