Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city,
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty.
How can you lose?
There's something about the city. Any city.
On a clear sunny day, it's impossible not to smile.
However in Chicago, it can make you feel somewhat bipolar.
I got both sunburnt & soaking wet all within about an hour.
I truly thought my first weekends here would be somewhat dull
considering I've only been here a week & wouldn't know anyone.
But I couldn't have been more wrong. I had my first American
party Friday night. Realised Saturday that I will never cease to
be amazed by the candy bars at American theatres. Had my
first 'real' Mexican food Saturday night (because apparently any
Mexican restaurants in Australia are make-believe & 'generic').
Then explored downtown Chicago all of Sunday,
which included looking up Marilyn Monroe's dress,
shopping in stores far deeper than our pockets,
& literally running through the POURING rain,
dripping wet, to make it on time for our train
(which sat at the station for 20 minutes anyway).
It's crazy, I thought it would take such a long time
to settle in, to be able to call this place home
& for it to feel like this is actually my life now.
It's been a week. I couldn't ask for more.
I want to live on Navy Pier in the summer.
I haven't picked my winter spot yet.
I'll have to wait til the snow falls.
