After a 13 and half hour plane journey we finally arrived at Rio airport only to get stuck in the middle of a Polish tour group queing for passport control.
We met Jorge, a taxi driver outside who quickly snapped us up before we even had a chance to think about buses, but we managed to negotiate the price, and were actually quite entertained by Jorge`s very strange banter during the trip. (``Rowan and Sarahs vacation...Wooh!!``..proceeded by beeping his horn)
On our way from the airport we saw Rio`s slums (Favelas) which are put together out of anything they can find, some were worse than others, but it was definitely interesting to see the conditions people can live in here, so different to back home
Our hostel is beautifully situated up in the hills with an amazing view of Rio. We can see Christ the redeemer and the sugar loaf. Its also got a nice atmosphere and not touristy at all because its in the suburbs. We`ve got our own terrace off our bedroom with hammocks! The view is really amazing. Weather is also fantastic at 34 degrees.
Steak is good. Beer is good. Suagry beer is not good.
Today we`re off in to town to get some info on buses as we are going to head north on friday and find some nice beaches, and just chill for a few days before going to Salvador.
