Oh boy...

Flew in at 6pm, on New Year's Eve. Our ride (kevin) to the hostel was late, but it was ok. He and his girlfriend run the new hostel -- which had just opened (and was the only reason we got a reservation) and they had been working like crazy to get it up and running.

Lots of running around but hooked up with Nigel, Lisa's brother and the friends -- people who came down and people who lived in Sydney. It was a regular party in itself. Adrian had arranged tickets into the Botanical Gardens to see the fireworks and the bridge. It was very civilized -- and not too crowded but fantastic venue for it (check the picture of Lisa and me with the bridge and opera house in the background, that's where we were for the fireworks....cooool).

We managed to drink loads of wine and get lost on the way home (apparently we stayed in a place cab drivers won't go to...) but made it there ok, with only one big spat!

The next day there was a big outside afterparty with loads of different DJs thumping music and general shenanigans. And apparently I wasn't allowed to wear my sandals. (No open shoes. Unless you were a girl. I nearly changed shoes with Lisa.) So a $AU50 cab ride to the hostel and back was needed. I nearly threw a fit. Oh well...at least it was fun!

Spent the other days taking tours, taking the Ferry to Manly, Bondi Beach, and met up with friends.

Matt McShane, who I used to work with in London had just moved back to Sydney. So we met up near the Opera House and had a few beers. He took us to Newtown and showed us a really awesome Thai Place in the back of a Pub (it looks like you've gone through the looking glass and wound up in Thailand somewhere. Bizarre. I managed to order enough for a dozen people. But then again I was hungry.

A friend of Lisa's Orlando came and picked us up from the hostel for wine at his amazing house. It was really nice to meet him and Nicola (and Cosmo and Zepher ... CUTE!) and get some inside knowledge about Australia!
