The city that never, ever sleeps!!
No kidding ! London, New York -yeah whatever. Wake up and smell the coffee kids ! Arrived in BA and was immediately hit with the general stir of the city. Had a couple of hours trapsing around the place trying to fins soemwhere to live for the next week or so and was generally dismayed at the riana nd the fact that places were full. However, as they say persaverance is a virtue and by a stroke of luck our last attempt was a result !
Welcome to the Baeun Hotel (not to be confused with the attached Bauen suite hotel) a wonderful 70's creation of splendour. We managed to score a 14th floor corner room for 60 pesos (same price as a hostel) and it had funky bogey green decor and views over BA. Sweet ! Ok so the air con didn't work and we had some questions over the fact that the lifts didn't quite stop at a floor and the wiring was hanging out at various places along the wall...but look at the flip side. Cheap, great location and it has a multitude of events and conferences including male strippers and tattoo convention. Apparently built for the world cup years ago it has been handed back to the staff (very friendly) to manage who are in the process of slowly doing it back up. Top hotel.
Once settled in we managed to enjoy the splenders of BA, spent a fine week cruising the city, hooking up with our top star mates Pablo, negro and crew and enjoying the fine wine, beers, steaks and sunrises.
Highlights including...
food (did I mention that already ?) Not for the faint hearted. Get stuck into your assado open pit bbq, lomo and chorizo steaks and a bit of the general offal. Parrilla's we love you.
wine....malbec, more please
Bocca game - ok they played crap but !
San Telmo cruising
Tango tastic
Colon Opera House
Polo
Cafe hopping
Toto negro's cute bunny and rooftop viewing
more stuff...........
Cruised off to an estancia for a couple of days then back to BA for the weekend and more general drinking and eating met Chris for a quick coffee, who now gains entry into the travelpod diary !
