The unique nature of this adventure is beginning to set in. We have engaged many very interesting people and seen beautiful cities and will see many more in this historic part of the world.  One of my great pleasures is feeling the pulse of the city and taking the time to absorb more of the unique aesthetic and urban experience.  Yesterday aIlowed me the chance to do so - if only for a short time.

I took the shuttle to the tram station and a 30 minute ride later was off the tram at the main train station in the Center.  I made sure to take a picture with my phone of the station (Nadrazni) I wanted to return to so it would be easy for someone to help me find my way back.  I wouldn't have wanted to end up in Bratislava by accident.  I ventured to the town square tower and climbed to the observation tower - There I found a good vantage point for a quick sketch of the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral c. 1890's.  A very distinctive gothic revival church with a barogue interior. Interestingly enough, one of the other main churches of Brno  - St James c. 14 - 15th century - is the opposite - a very gothic interior and baroque exterior.

I enjoy occasionally sketching as it gives you a chance to carefully study the detail of the subject. Photography is good, and fast, and is very effective but sometimes the eye sees more than the lens - or at least differently. At any rate I also spent a few moments out of the light rain at a sidewalk cafe in Freedom Square.  A distinctive building on the square was one of the first in central Europe to utilize wrought iron.  The balconys and details were especially well detailed as the owner of the building also owned the local ironworks.  Good marketing!
