Hey Guys! We're coming to the end of our time in Bright so thought going to try and piece together what we've done while we've been here. We got here on the 26th March with no idea where we were going to stay, eventually ending up in the Outdoor Inn where the manager let us camp til he could sort out cabins-so off we went to buy a tent :) We found out very quickly that Bright gets pretty cold at night (probably not to UK standards but we've become very used to the warm). Started picking the apples on the Monday morning, 7am starts in a tent are not fun! The farm we were working for is called Nightingales which is the biggest apple growing farm in Australia, and the views from some of the orchards are pretty awesome! Bright is also a big centre for paragliding, so often driving home from work we would see lots of them in the sky.
On our first day off we decided to take a trip to Mount Buffalo, and after a very windy drive to the top we parked near the top and walked to Lake Catani. The water was very cold but we decided to go for a swim anyway-how often do you get to swim in a lake on the top of a mountain?
Afterwards we decided to go the long way round to get back to the car, and after a very steep climb we stumbled on a lookout with the most amazing views of the valley. Made the climb worth it!
The next day we went back to Mount Buffalo to check out some waterfalls, called the Lady Bath Falls and Eurobin Falls. The lady bath falls were soo pretty, perfect for swimming (in theory). The water was freezing but that didn't stop Ken and so he and a friend Tim hopped in. We also went to check out Eurobin falls and see more views of the valley.
On another of our days off we headed to a town called Mount Beauty. Theres not much going on in the town so we headed up to see a waterfall called Falls Creek. It was very pretty but it was a very long drive to get there!
We also spent one Saturday at 'Gala Day' in Bright. There was a huge market where we bought an awesome hat and watched the Bright parade.
As most of our time in Bright has been spent apple picking, this blog entry would not be complete without writing a bit about our job! We pick in rows, each row consisting of two lines of trees. We pick into bins in the middle of the row, each bin holding half a ton of apples! Ken is definitely the quicker picker. Its pretty tough work, especially if you're mind is not in it-it requires alot of motivation! The pros are obviously being outside all day, and being able to work to your own targets.
Anyway guys, we leave Bright tomorrow, and its been awesome, but very excited to be moving one to new (and warmer) places!
