So today is the day we fly to Borneo.

We are up about 9 ish and head off to get a good breakfast inside us. Since it's our last day in BK we thought we'd try some where new; big mistake!!

Our breakfast had just arrived (scrambled egg for Rosey & omlette for Ben) when this English guy just collapsed on the floor. It was quite bizarre we don't know where he came from or where he had been. He was just laid there on the floor and had cracked his head so hard there was a pool of blood beginning to form. Ben and I went over; the guy was out cold. Try asking for a doctor or an ambulance on Koh San Road and see what ya get? Anyway the guy eventually came round - he was still pissed and then started going mental accusing everyone off attacking him including the staff and was running in and out of the restaurant like a lunatic. A police man turned up and after a bit of a struggle carted him off we think. Its dick heads like this that give us a bad reputation abroad. This should have been a sign of how the day was going to go!

We set off to the airport around 11.30 as we new the roads would be busy; when aren't they? And once we finally hit the highway it didn't take long. The taxi man insisted on dropping us at terminal 2 when we are flying from terminal 1 so we had to walk back down. Of course the airport is packed and the que's were a night mare but we eventually arrived at the check in counter where the nightmare would really begin!

We booked cheap flights with Air Asia and are now told we are only allowed 15k luggage each. The first bag weighed in at 33k (the new bag we bought with wheels) and I'm sure it would have weighed more had Ben put it the scales correctly!!!!!! The second bag weighed 19k which makes a grand total of 52k! 22k over weight at 1.40 baht per k is more money than we had left. After much deliberating she charged us for 10k. So we had to go and pay that before they would issue our boarding passes and it's quite a walk. Then we didn't have enough left for the departure tax and had to traipse all over for a cash machine just to draw out 1,000 baht only to be able to claim our VAT back once inside.

We than had all off 20 minutes to get to the departure gate which of course has to be at the other side of the airport. We manage to buy cigs, sandwich and a box of Quality Street which after having paid for them I realized they cost 7 quid!!

We eventually boarded the plane and head off into blue sky for the 2 hour flight to Kota Kinabalu, Borneo.

Coming in to land was beautiful as we flew down the coast and at one point I thought we were going to land on the beach. Sophie & Averil we waiting for us at the airport and it was great to see friendly faces arriving in a new country for the first time. We gathered our bags jumped in a taxi and headed to Travellers Light Bakpackers Lodge where they had booked a room for us. It is very nice and clean and the staff are great but there is no smoking, towels have to be rented and they only had a room that sleeps 4 people with bunkbeds (would definitely recommend if u don't smoke and are in a group). We will stay tonight and look for something else tomorrow after we have been White Water Rafting.

We went out for dinner with Sophie & Averil and had a little wonder around. For some strange reason all the hotels and backpacker lodges are full till Tuesday/Wednesday so we don't know what we are going to do. On our way back we walked past Tropicana Backpackers (just down from Travellers Light) and press the buzzer to see if they have any rooms. There's a sign on the door: Please keep gate closed so Bobo the crazy dog can't escape (or words to that effect) and we all laugh. A man answers our call and says he has room and it's cheap so we look. Crazy mad Bobo comes bouncing down the stairs to meet us. Room has big comfy double bed, satellite tv and vcd player with fan for 40 ringetts a night (about 6 quid) that will do nicely since we are going to be out most of the time. We move in tomorrow. Oh just to let you know most places have shared bathrooms but they are clean so that's ok I think we can cope with that too.

So the day is almost over, just enough time to get a coffee from Coffee Bean which has FREE wireless internet.

To be continued. . . . .
