Where I stayed
Shrubbery Gardens
Oh boy what a day!
We took an air con bus to Colombo and figured we should spend a couple of days here. It took almost 4 hours, we left our bags at the train station as it's close to where the bus stops and set off in search of some where to stay.
Big mistake; everything and I mean everything is closed!!!!! Why? For the Buddhist festival of course. This is a joke surely? Colombo is supposed to be a bustling city, full of life and excitement. The Priminister is a Buddhist and consequently the whole of Sri Lanka has been shut down. What accommodation is available is too expensive (i.e The Hilton!) for us so we end up in Col 4; Bambalapitiya (get your tongue round that if you can) and stay at Mrs Settupathy in Shrubbery Gardens. It's a lovely place with great staff and nice and clean, with breakfast included; added bonus a kettle we can use whenever we want.
The next day Ben is already bored, we go for a walk but still nothing is open. Colombo is dirty, scruffy and not the cosmo city we expected it to be.
We will leave tomorrow and head down south in search of one of these beautiful picture postcard beaches we have been told about.
Sorry guys and girls no pics here either.
To be continued. . . . .
