Where I stayed
Lady Ruthelen Hostel LA
We left Friday afternoon and stayed in Thousand Palms on the way (the drive would've been 8 solid hours otherwise!) where we were rudely awakened at 4:20am by an alleged adulterer's wife, accusing us of sleeping with her husband- she had the wrong room for the record- and wouldn't believe he wasn't in our room. In our sleepy haze we thought it was the front desk having realised that we had an extra person in our room, but it was much more exciting than that! After breakfast at Denny's, where they had hobbit themed menus- there's a bit of NZ in every restaurant at the moment!, we got on the road the next morning and headed for LA.
When we got to our mansion-esque hostel in downtown LA we recovered from the drive for a bit before heading to Staples centre to explore the area and pick up our tickets for the game
The next day was our tourist day; driving around Beverly Hills to check out the mansions, The Walk of Fame, Hollywood sign, Santa Monica. The mansions in that area are phenomenal- I definitely wouldn't mind living there - mum, dad? Hint hint haha. We could've been peeping Toms for days on end! (One of the living rooms had a HUGE Jackson Pollock piece and a baby grand piano.) We spent a couple of hours wandering Hollywood Boulevard looking at the stars- there are far too many to take photos of all that you want! I did make sure to get a photo posing as Marilyn and also with Nicole Kidman- my boyfriend insists I look like Nicole Kidman's daughter so I couldn't pass that op up! We saw a mould of the tallest man in the world- he was 8'11" (that's 2 feet taller than Rob Loe for all you that know him!) with size 37 feet
Sunset couldn't be seen from anywhere other than Santa Monica beach- it was so calming to be near -and in- the ocean again! We walked along the beach after paddling about for a while and walked the pier famous for being the end of Route 66! I got some 'Cotton Candy'- delish! After meandering about we headed back to the Boulevard to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner and home to the hostel for a short sleep. Late to bed, early to rise and all that!
We did get up early for a good reason though- the drive home was via San Diego where we stopped for brunch and a swim! In Winter! The weather was beautiful, in fact it was much like our Summers. Eventually we had to get back on the road, for what we thought was going to be an uneventful drive.. Let's just say we met our first policeman and leave it at that shall we? Also, some of us (Ricky and I) were silly and forgot to bring our passports, so every border check along the way was a little nerve wracking- we managed to get through all but the last without being asked for our passports, but the guy was really friendly and I suspect enjoyed something a little different that "Y'all American citizens?" "Yeah." After a very long drive home and many stops- I needed to pee a lot -sorry- we did actually make it back about 9pm, not long after we had planned!
As nice as it is to get out of Tucson, it's definitely lovely to get home to my friends, roommate and my own bed!
In a couple of weeks, Selina and I are headed up to see Beth's (mum's friend) future parents-in-law to go horse riding!! We are getting very excited to meet them and the horses (and I'm also really looking forward to home-cooked food!).
Until then (I think),
Much Love xx
