We stopped at Connor Battlefield in Ranchester in northern Wyoming then we drove on into Montana enjoying the wonderful rolling hills, many covered in sage brush.
We made a short stop at the site of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. We heard a great presentation of a description of the battle where General Custer and his men were decimated by the Native People. The guide pointed out that Custer's personal feelings were that the Indians had been very poorly treated by the white man but he was a soldier and was following orders. We had been here 2 years ago so our visit was short.
At Billings we drove to the Pictograph Cave State Park where there are more than 100 pictographs made by prehistoric people more than 4500 years ago. Unfortunately there was a thunderstorm and hail storm shortly after our arrival and so we only visited the visitor’s centre. We went on to Laurel for the night.
