After settling in at the Royal Turtle, we walked a mile or two to the end of the airport runway to Sunset Beach to watch jets land and takeoff
. Awesome!! We got sand blasted! A guy got blasted into the sea with his camera just before we arrived. The runway starts right after the beach. We had drinks at the nearby beach bar and had a ‘blast’ watching people and planes before heading back to the Royal Turtle. I had a few of the excellent 'Desperado' French beers.
Upon our return, Tom, Bone & I had an excellent dinner at the Royal Turtle Inn's over-the-water restaurant, our last meal in St. Maarten. I was able to Skype Bill for the last time on this voyage with the free WiFi.
On to TC tomorrow! Homeward bound at last after almost two months at sea. What an awesome experience this has been!!
040310 St. Maarten: We arrived early morning to our final stop at the Dutch town of Phillipsburg, St. Maarten. After breakfast, we began the disembarkation process. After many goodbyes to new friends and receiving our passports, we left the ship. We loaded our luggage on an air conditioned bus and toured the Dutch & French sides of the island. We visited a should-not-have-been French nude beach and shopped in tourista French St. Martin. We encountered St. Maarten rush hour with miles of two lane, bumper to bumper traffic seemingly going nowhere. Our tour ended at the Dutch-side St. Maarten airport where we tried to check our baggage for the flight home tomorrow. No luck. We then hailed a taxi and headed for the nearby Royal Turtle Inn for check-in.
