After catching the 5 am train to rhine groggie eyed we stepped into the fairyland book of grim, with gingerbread looking houses, cobblestone streets, Kuku clocks, and about 12 bus loads of Japanese tourists, all loaded with cameras!
After hitting the local flee market for some great souvenirs we jumped on our ferry to see some castles. The trip up the river was absolutely amazing, only the pictures can tell the full story. huge castles, built strait into the sides of cliffs over looking the rhine river. some castles still have existing walls and watch towers of which cities have been built in and around. From there we stopped briefly in Colone where we met a guy who happened to be a graduate of Boulder....about 40 years ago! in mechanical engineering! small world. We visited the cathedral there which is still very badly burned from WWII.
on to Berlin
