The. 1st day in NYC we checked into our B and B in east village a multitude of ethnic cafes, bars, and little stores, it was bed and coffee house. Each room was a theme room, ours was India inspired. On the 2 nod day we went to the Rockefeller center where we watched a taping of Dr Oz. The tickets are free but you spend a lot of time standing in lines. The taping lasted 2 hours, They take breaks while they changed the scenes out. before the show a comedian warms up the audience to put us in a happy mood, the comedian works thru out the show cracking jokes about Dr Oz, sometimes Dr Oz rolls his eyes at the comedian. They use wide angle lens to make it look like there are more people in the show. The day we were there he talked about statins, pains, and shingles. That night we went to a broadway play big fish, about a dad telling his son stories, Once the boy turns 19 or so he believes the story's are made up to cover the fact he has another family.
On the 3rd day we went to the statue of Liberty and 911 memorial. You will never see so much security in your life, if you think airports are bad, you haven't seen anything till this security. They do 2 screenings just in case the 1st one misses anything. That night we went to the taping of Jimmy Fallon which was the most fun of anything we did, he had Pearl Jam as his musical guests and Javier Bardem as his guest who is in the councilor movie that came out this week, he also was in Country for Old Men a few years ago , he usually plays bad guy roles.
The show also has a comedian who warms up the audience and try's to keep the party going during the show. At the 1st of the show Fallon does his monologue. The show was taped a Day before it aired Friday night
On Friday I went to the taping of the today show, got to meet and shake Al Rokers hand.
Was able to watch from very close the filming of the show, the producer would tell us all when we were being filmed and get everybody yelling and screaming. Just before the show , they handed out materials to make a poster, there were only a couple of us who brought posters from home, Haeley spent a afternoon making the poster we used, Susie had planned to go but was tired and in pain from a sciatic nerve problem, she needed a day to sleep in. We only got 5 hours of sleep in New York a night,, the town never sleeps, After the show I went back to the hotel to get her. In the afternoons went to Macy's dept store and to the Empire State bldg.
I had been there last when I was 21. Susie's grandma went there once got her a miniature statue of it, so carrying on the tradition we bought each of the gran girls one.
In the evening we went to a play about the life of Janice Joplin. The actor would set in a chair and tell the story of her life, after that she would bely Lu a Janice Joplin song
other actors portrayed Etta James and Aretha Franklin. When she talked about her life she usually had bottle of Jim beam or other liquor to swig down. If you didn't know it you would think they brought Janice back she was that good of a singer and actor.
During our time in New York in Times Square we ran into the famous naked cowboy playing his guitar so I took Susie's picture with him. Some guy dressed as an Indian with a long flowing head dress underwear to copy cat the cowboy to make a buck. He might fool some tourists but he was Mexican and not and Indian. NYC Haden some friendly beggars I ever did see and creative too. One guy he a signs that he needed money to buy weed, another said the FBI was investigating him and he need money to pay his lawyer.
