Today we spent the morning touring Churchhill downs home of the Kentucky Derby. First we took a walking tour of the in field and watch the horse exercises exercise the horses. They have a Nov December season before the track is closed till March, at that time the horses go south for the winter to race in Florida and other Southern states. Later we took a van tour of center field which there is a tunnel under the track. During the Kentucky derby that area sells for $40 and you don't even see the race except for TV. Seats in the bleacher cost 300- 12000 for a box seat!!!. For 28 years my grandfather and I never missed watching the derby, so it was cool to see the race track. During the van ride we saw the horse barns the horse owners rent.
In the afternoon we saw the Louisville slugger bat factory and museum. They were busy making bats for the world Series coming up. Each team buys bats for their team players according to the players specs. The lathes that make the bats were 100 years old and spin out a bat in 30 seconds. They get orders from all over the world. We got 2 mini bats for free as souvenirs. We bought two bats. One is a bat that is a cane with my name and Don't Mess with Me on it, You always here about muggers that mug old people, When I need to use a cane, I doubt they will mess with me!!!  I bought a Pink Bat with our names and OCT 31,2009 10th Anv. on it. The major leagues use the pink bats on Mothers Day each year. Maybe tomorrow I will take a pic of it and put it on the blog tomorrow night.
