It wasn't natural for my body to have such big nights in succession so a little R & R was in order and what better way then at Amber's parents place in Kobe. The 2nd fastest train in the world whisked me there and for the length of our stay we were spoilt rotten by her parents (thank you again =)) with meal after meal of quality food eg. home-cooked "cow massaged with beer" aka Kobe beef (there are many grades but we just had the medium one, in retrospect I think I would have had a heart attack if we had anything higher) which was cooked in its own juicy fat and melted away as soon as it went in your mouth....melted I tell you!
They even lined us up with a plethora of activities including a night at the Blue Note (in Osaka) where K Ci and Jo Jo were performing. The venue was small and intimate and it was a very entertaining show. We even got up on the stage with 3 other couples (including Mr. and Mrs. Gee) where we all had to slow dance. K Ci was rocking, so rocking that it seemed like he was high but Jo Jo was completely the opposite staring a little too long with his drunken eyes. An entertaining show nonetheless and the night was topped off by a Japanese degustation meal.
Baseball is to Japanese as water to fish. The fans go crazy here and we were lucky enough to have tickets organised by Amber's parents (thanks again) for a Hanshin Tigers game playing in their home feild near Osaka. Up against the Tokyo Swallows the Tigers fans were out in force and filled the stadium to capacity of 50 000 or more. Everyone except a handful of people, were in supporter gear with whistles, batons and balloons! The special thing about this team is that for some strange reason in the 7th inning, balloons are blown up and let loose by everyone in the crowd, magical. I felt sorry for the Swallows as their travelling troupe of some 20 fans all huddled up together and tried their hardest to cheer their team along but to no avail as the home team won narrowly in the last innings.
Zen was never reached by visiting the Kyoto Temples and "The Rock Garden" never did reveal itself or any animals hiding in the shade but they were serene nonetheless. I have however become enlightened once again and shown how food could and should taste good (thanks again).
