We drove a huge 105 miles today stopping around noon in Bayfield, CO at Riverside RV Park. It is a really nice park and we have decided to stay two nights here. It is a Mom and Pop place with beautiful, huge baskets of flowers all over the place. Our site backs up to a creek which is just lovely. Later in the afternoon we walked through a park across the street into the little town of Bayfield. While there we discovered a little Mexican restaurant, Casita. They have a very nice patio opening onto the main street which is where we ate. After we had ordered, another couple came in and laughed and said that we had their favorite table. After visiting for a few minutes we asked them to sit with us which they did. It turned out that they are RVers also so we had a lot to talk about. After supper, we walked back through town and then the park which wandered along a lovely little stream and are now back at camp settling in for the evening.
We have decided to stay two nights here since this is 4th of July weekend and we figured that if we stop early we will have a better chance of getting a site. Our plans are to drive into Durango tomorrow and play around there since we are just 20 something miles from there. We might check out a campground there and see what our chances of getting into one on Sunday evening. After Monday we shouldn't have any problem finding sites (we hope!) Right now we think that we will stay in the higher elevations here in Colorado and perhaps Utah rather than going into upper Arizona and New Mexico since it sounds like it is so hot there and that there are still problems with fires in those areas. Stay tuned...when I know, you will know!
