Set off to find the church of San Barnaba on our way to Piazza San Marco as we were planning to go inside the famous Basilica there.

The San Barnaba church was used in both The Italian Job, and Indiana Jones movies (the one where X really does mark the spot).  Interestingly, we'd been in this church a day or so earlier since it's where the Leonardo da Vinci exhibits were (just hadn't realised this was the same place!).  Also, when we were walking around the church, we'd both stepped on a loose stone tile and thought about the movie!

Continued on the Piazza San Marco only to find that we hadn't gotten up early and the lines were already very long.  So, change of plan, we headed back to Murano instead.

We took a free water taxi provided by one of the glass-makers.  They do this to get you over to the island.  Then once, you're there, they take you into their factory, show a demonstration or two, then take you straight into the extensive showroom.

Of course the expectation is that you'll buy some stuff from them but the people there seemed desperate to sell us something and kept following us around so in the end we said we couldn't afford anything and walked out ... they were a little disappointed!

We spent the day shopping for glass around the island there must be over 100 shops on this little island, selling everything from 1Euro junk (usually from China) to glass artworks and chandeliers worth tens of thousands of Euros (sometimes right next door to each other!).  By the time we finished it felt like we'd been into every shop on the island, but taking the Vaporetto (water ferry) home, we could see many more we hadn't visited, believe it or not.

Arrived home, had a little rest then some dinner at a cool pizza place (not many of them around!) then took some night photos and returned home again.
