My Nissan Quest van is 14 years old, a little weathered, but I think it will do well bringing us across Canada on this one way trip - coast to coast. I had a rebuilt engine installed last year, the body and frame are in good shape, and it was just at the garage this week for a series of tune-ups. It required repairs to the front struts, the steering rod, one ball joint, and  a couple of malfunctioning sensors in the engine (not inexpensive). Comox Valley Automotive did a good job in getting her ready. She's a happy van now. I think for the sake of this travel blog, I'll give her the name Googoo (this is a real name used by the Mic Mac first nations of Nova Scotia).

I have grown fond of Googoo over the years. She has hauled my kayak, strapped to her roof to some of the best kayaking spots on Vancouver Island, and many times has served as a shelter from storms during camp-outs with my teenage sons, as we were off somewhere in the fir tree forests of British Colombia's west coast

After I paid the clerk at the garage for the repairs, she inquired as to why I would want to move away from Vancouver Island - it's a great place to live, mild winters, mountains and ocean close by. Though I have never done it, they say, during the Spring you can sail, golf, and ski here, all in the same day. I explained to her that I was being transferred by my employer, but Halifax was one of my top choices for a posting so I was happy. I was glad that they were sending me to another coastal area. I won't have to leave my kayak behind. That is for sure. We bought a house out east that is close to a lake and twenty minutes drive to the ocean.

If all goes according to plan we'll be leaving on July 15th, and will have 13 days, 12 nights, to get to Halifax, when we'll meet the movers at our new home. This gives us enough time to see some of the sights along the way. Our two cats, and one of our sons will be arriving by air a couple of days later. We're praying that all will go smoothly.
