It was a miracle we caught the 12:45 Duke point ferry, since it was 12:55 by the time we arrived. The ticket vendor thought we would have to wait until 3:20. But a stalled transport truck was our answer to prayer. We were running late, due to some uunexpected, last minute tasks, dropping off Andre's, (our oldest son) friends. The last vehicle on, we breathed a sigh of relief and went up to the observation deck to watch the large B.C. Ferry churn away from the dock. Our final view of Vancouver Island, faded into the haze of the summer sky.

Andre spent his time sketching in his art pad at a table up on the observation deck. Olivia napped, and I wandered around taking photo's and thinking. The previous two days were a blurr of cleaning, sweeping, and scrubbing, getting our old condominium ready for the march out.

That last morning in the Comox Valley had started with a farewell run around the Courtenay Airpark. I took it easy, stopped to do some push-ups and sit-ups at a scenic deck overlooking the putledge river. My last chance to take in the view for a long time. The reality of the move was sinking in.

The ferry let us off in Tewassen, south of Vancouver. We drove north, passing over the Fraser River to give Andre a view of this large city. We crossed several bridges and got lost, when my GPS couldn't show some of the city street details (like closed streets and highway entrances). But we eventually made it to Chilliwack around 6:30 p.m. and checked into the Travelodge, and older motel, near highway 1.
