Lachlan here! :)

We arrived in Plitvice after riding down from Zagreb. We had done most of the riding yesterday, so it was only a few short hours (thank God!). After dumping our stuff in the bungalow (which in reality wasn't much more than a permanent tent), we changed in to our casual clothes and rode the 7km or so to the national park, and parked the bike just as the sky decided to open up (again!) and bucket down on us while we ran to the nearest cafe. Managed to grab a couple of seats and eat a surprisingly good cheeseburger and an apple strudel apiece as the ground outside got pounded up by countless drops of water.

When the rain finally looked like it was starting to slow up a good half hour later, we bought a couple of ponchos and entered the walking area. We'll upload some of the pictures and videos when we get the chance, but from the very get go there were some absolutely incredible views of several massive waterfalls collecting into a pool the colour of the sky on a vaguely cloudy day. After having our gobs thoroughly smacked, we got past the first area and actually started walking, but not before Dad dropped his IS lens in a big puddle, smashing the bezel and pretty much messing up the whole thing.

That aside, Plitvice Lakes National Park quickly jumped right up amongst our most favourite places EVAR, with lake after waterfall after waterfall after lake. Every time we got to a corner we thought "this must be close to the end of the loop" and then suddenly another whole area with at least 3 waterfalls revealed itself. We concluded that the whole thing smacked of the old Myst/Riven Series, and decided that the next Myst game should, nay, MUST be at least inspired by this.

After reaching the second of the three main tiers of the lake it started raining again, but by this point we were enjoying ourselves far too much to care. The ponchos were used to wrap up the camera gear and then onwards we went, up along the side of a mountain with waterfalls off to the side and almost overhead.

We finally reached the end of the loop and got on the bus that took us back to the entrance. We were absolutely drenched but had LOADS of fun. Off to Slovenia for Lake Bled tomorrow.

Update: Lots of pics now on Flickr
