I'm now here in sunny Santa Monita staying at the HI. I'm in the Santa Monica library as it gives 1.5 hours of free internet per day. A lot cheaper than $2 for 20 mins at the HI. Looks like I wont be able to upload any photos here, can't at the HI either. But can charge my phone and pocket pc via the USB ports here.

The bus trip was really great. We all got picked up from the Green Tortoise hostel at 7am on Monday. I think there was maybe 22 on the bus, the max size is 36, so this was an ideal number of people as it would be a squash if it was full. Lots of nationalities on board including, French(1: Cedric), German(2 Joanna), Swiss(1), Italian(1: Stefano), Russian(2: Maria, Paulina), Polish(1: Aneta), Israeli(1: Adi), Australian(2: Diane, Claire) even 3 Americans (Brendan, Laura) but mostly English(7: me, Jimmy, Craig, Annabel, Helen)! The American driver Lucas was from near Birmingham, Alabama. The bus was great lots room, with tables and side seats that are almost couches.

Our first stop is Santa Cruz where we explore the beach and wonder into Downtown for some lunch.

Our second stop is Montery, where me and Brendon from Chicago hire hybrid bikes for an hour to cruise along the coastline. Lots of seals about.

We camp at a site along the spectacular coastline of Big Sur. All food provided but we all have to help out preparing it and cleaning afterwards etc. We had pasta and salad. We were visited by a group of raccoons but were too quick for me to get a photo. We drank a few beers, no camp fire as fire restrictions were in place. You can either sleep on the bus, camp or just sleep under the stars as I did, sleeping on one of the mattresses provided on the bus. It turned out to be a really cold night and my summer time only light sleeping bag was not up to the job and I didn't wear enough layers, so didn't get a lot of sleep.

The next morning I get up first. We have fruit salad for breakfast. Then we hit the road again after clearing up. We visit Hearst Castle but I choose to visit the beach instead of going inside on a tour.

We stop of and see some elepant seals.

Our second night stay is a camp site just outside L.A. We cook a vegetarian Pad Thai. We were able to light a fire here and its a warmer night. I originally decide to sleep on the bus but change my mind and sleep outside again with extra clothes on. This time I sleep really well but still get up first.
