Today we went to Canyonlands National Park, only 32 miles from Moab, UT & a short distance from Arches National Park. Even though they are very close they are totally different. It is divided into 3 districts & the one we did was The Island in the Sky, which is the most accessible of the 3. It sits on top of a 2,000 ft mesa & contains mesas, buttes & deep canyons. The Colorado River & Green River flow together in the depths of the canyon. One of the walks we did was to Upheaval Dome, a weird moonlike crater with peaks springing from it's centre. This even has the geologists puzzled as to how it was formed. A recent theory says it may have been created by a meteor impact.

We were here early enough this morning to secure a camp spot at the campgrounds. You really have to be here as people are leaving because they don't last long. This one only has 12 sites & we got the last one. It's meant we haven't had to drive back in to town at the end of the day & can just relax. It's been a warm day today, low 80's, but the wind has been
shocking, & we've heard it's supposed to be worst tomorrow. Showers all round tonight as we are covered in sand.

Moab is the main town in the area & is an adventurer's paradise. They have everything from white water rafting, rock climbing, canyoneering, to parachuting & biking tracks. There are a lot of ATV's & small 4 wheel drives around.
