Came across to Pigeon Forge, on the western side of the Smoky Mountains & were expecting a quiet, small town. How wrong could we be, we couldn't believe it. It was a 2-3 mile strip on both sides of the road full of tourist shops & attractions. We couldn't even take a photo because it went for so far. We saw some things on our trip last year & so far this year, but nothing quite like this.

We went in search of Dollywood, Dolly Parton's amusement park, not that we wanted to go in, just have a look. All we managed to find was the carpark, which was huge. We think once you park your car a trolley car takes you to the park.

From there we went to Gatlinburg & had intended doing a tour of a moonshine distillery. But what do you know, it's smack bang in the middle of the tourist strip & parking was nowhere to be found, so we gave up on that one & headed for the national park.

Luck wasn't on our side today as when we got to the visitor information place at the beginning of the park they told us the road that goes straight through & over the mountains was closed & wouldn't be open till the end of May. They had some heavy rain in January which caused a landslide & were still working on the roadThis involved an 85 mile detour to get to Cherokee in North Carolina. Luckily it was a nice drive anyway. We camped at Harrah's Cherokee Casino for the night
