After leaving Paducah drove down the Trace at the Land between the Lakes. This spans both Kentucky & Tennessee, & is a stretch of land between Kentucky Lake & lake Barkley & is about 60 miles long. It appears that it is very big for fishing & hunting, we saw a guy putting a huge turkey in the back of his ute & numerous other guys returning to their vehicle with hunting gear.

On the southern end near Dover was Fort Donelson, the first major success for the Union, in 1862, led by Ulysses S. Grant. It earned Grant his nickname "Unconditional Surrener". We are coming across more & more Civil War sites & battlefields.

Came down to Lynchburg yesterday to the site of the Jack Daniels Distillery, did a tasting tour. It was amazing to see how it is made & to know that all JD is made there. No inside photos were allowed because of the fumes, very interesting. At the end we got to taste some of the Gentleman Jack, No. 7 & Single Barrel whiskey. The tastings were very small, already pre-measured. Wes, our tour guide was very informative & lots of fun. You can buy a barrel of the single barrel whiskey, which has only been filtered once, for around $9,000 to $12,000 & yields around 240 bottles of whiskey. The only one to be doubly filtered is the Gentleman Jacks. It's only about 240 bottles as no two barrels produce exactly the same amount of whiskey & no two barrels produce the same flavour. They make their own barrels & each one is only used once.

From their we went on to another distillery, George Dickels, made a similar way but Auchincloss smaller operation. This one wasn't a tasting tour.

We arrived on Nashville this afternoon & went to Centennial Park to see the Parthenon, the world's only full-scale replica of the Greek temple. It was built for an exposition way back when but unfortunately was closed when we arrived so couldn't go in. The weather has been really warm the last couple of days, high 70's & low 80's so decided to walk around & see if we could find some live music. Found one bar so sat & listened for awhile before calling it a night.

We have travelled through some beautiful countryside the past few days, the blossom trees are out in bloom & the trees are starting to regain their leaves.
