Monday morning October 22 arrived with the first winter storm to hit California and San Francisco was quite wet when we woke. there was traffic chaos on the freeways and 18 inches of snow above 5000 ft in the Sierras.Initially we contemplated taking a taxi to the airport but as the rain eased we decided to check out earlier and used the BART to get there. This will be the last of my travel blogs and I will post it once we are back in Perth. I had problems with the photos on the last one so I have added the photos from New York and San Francisco that were not included.
On arrival at the airport we had a delay at check in as they couldn't find our booking. We had nor noticed that our booking had been recorded Chinese style so I was, Mr Douglas Fox Robin and I was travelling with Mrs Winifred Fox Mary. However we got that sorted and were on our way but it also caused some confusion to the security officer who wouldn't let us go until he had checked with his superior. Shoes off, belts off, body screened, X-rays and finally deemed safe to travel. Our flight was scheduled for 13.35 and we pushed back pretty much on time in fine sunny conditions and began our 14 and a half hour flight to Hong Kong. I thought it a little ironic that we had crossed the Atlantic in 14 days and were now crossing the Pacific in 14 hours. No guesses as to which trip was more comfortable!!! However apart from a few patches of turbulence it went smoothly and we landed on schedule at 19.30 Tuesday 23. We cleared immigration and reported to our hotel transfer desk and were and Langham place just before 9.30. We have splashed out a little on ourselves for our last 3 nights with a club lounge room on 35 floor with lovely views over Kowloon. The club lounge has all sorts of extras included so we feel very spoilt and pampered.
After a big buffet breakfast on Wednesday we were taken on a one hour walking tour of the local area and once our guide left us we continued down Nathan road to the harbour and back with a little shopping on the way. Returning to the hotel we spent time around the pool before going for complimentary afternoon tea at 3pm in the Club Lounge. A tour of the local markets at 6pm meant we were back in the lounge in time for canapés and drinks followed by sweet delights and nightcaps. All of course is complementary. After a couple of Baileys on ice we retired to catch up from our sleep deprived travel.
Today is our last day here before our departure for Perth tomorrow. We walked from the hotel downtown and did some shopping and both had our hair done spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the lounge facilities. Last evening we watched the laser light from the hotel and now it is travel day and we have checked out of our room and paid the bill and are waiting in the comfort of the lounge on the 36th floor where we can have a coffee and another breakfast if we could fit it in!! Our airport transfer leaves at 11.40 and our flight is scheduled for 15.05.
On time when we left the gate but it took another 30 minutes to take off due to aircraft congestion and in that time it started to rain quite heavily. We have had such a wonderful run of weather with only a couple of days in 3 months where wet weather has interfered with our activities. Landed at Perth at 11pm and found Chris and Adrienne there to meet us and so we will be heading home today after catching up with the rest of the family for lunch and so our big adventure is over and we look forward to the next one.!
