Our hotel in Central Park West is in a convenient location with the park entrance just down the street and a subway station a block away. Day one had us on the public bus service to downtown Manhattan , starting with Time Square and surrounds. Managed to get our show tickets for tomorrow night to see Mamma Mia. We bought a corn beef sandwich and shared this in a little park then caught a bus to lower manhattan and ended Up at the World Trade Center memorial. This is really something special to visit and is an unbelievable experience. A beautiful shrine to the memory of all those who lost their lives. The security is impressive as you would expect. Something has been learned you feel. The bus ride back to the hotel took over an hour through the rush. Subway is much faster but the bus allows you to see. You have to choose. We had a lovely birthday dinner in a little Italian restaurant just down West 71st Street and strolled around the block on the way home. Great day lovely evening.

Next day we used the subway to get to South Ferry and caught the 11am Staaten Island ferry. Tremendous view of Manhatten, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The return journey was even better and we were back by 12.30 with a 30 minute coffee break on the island. We then walked the Brooklyn Bridge - well to the centre and back - more photos - how did we manage before digital cameras!!?. We had another corn beef sandwich in a little garden just off Church Street then walked down to the World Finance Centre on the banks of the Hudson. We bussed back to the hotel and freshened up before walking and bussing to the show in Broadway at the Wintergarden Theatre. We had dinner at a lovely Thai restaurant just around the corner and the show was just fantastic.
Today our last day involved a stroll in Central Park then we took the subway to the Empire State. That was a great experience and again more photos. spectacular views all around. Dinner at a pasta house near Time square was preceded by a quick look in Macy's before a few pics of the lights of time square and the the subway back to 72nd st and the hotel.

Tomorrow we have an early start as we are leaving JFK at 10 for San Francisco. We catch you again there. Bye!
