However, much people do it, speaking ill of others is rarely comfortable unless you're sure that you are absolutely right.  When I spoke and wrote ill of my students on the basis of my suspicions that they had cheated in their February exams, I was wary of doing so even though everything I knew told me I was right. See this for the story.

This week, vindication landed in my lap quite unexpectedly.  I was looking at something for one of the students, when lo and behold what did I spy on the memory stick I'd been given, but a temporary Word file of a copy of the exam.  I'm no computer whizz, but I know that if the temp file is on the stick, the chances are that the master document was on the same memory stick.

What was the date on the file?  Oh, err, 3 weeks before the exam.  So let's see, one of the students I suspect of cheating has a memory stick which almost certainly contained a copy of the exam 3 weeks before the exams.  Got you, you arrogant little b******s.

Would it stand up in court?  Do I think anyone here will want to deal with the potential consequences? Will anything happen now I've passed it on?  Right now, I don't care!

I guess that my conscience has been niggling me, and now it's completely clear because I was right, and for now that's all I care about.
