I looked around me and thought, what I am I doing???  It was time to do some of what I want to do and a bit less work.  Those who've done it themselves will no doubt be familiar with the fact that when you do this, not only doesn't feel absolutely rip-roaring fantastic, but it actually seems that you've got less to do than you thought you did. It was my tired mind which saw things piling up and becoming negative.  A fresh, rested pair of eyes and life and work were so much more easier.

I look around me and can see colleagues who are drowning: no social life, not sleeping well, losing weight rapidly, only able to talk about school and work.  I'm not going to gloat to them about how good I feel although when I'm sat here on a friday afternoon with music pounding and ready to get away for the weekend whilst they slave away, it's a bit obvious.  I'd like to push them a life raft, but my solution doesn't sound like a "good" one.  For me, you can give a lot but when it comes to it you have to be willing to be a bit pig-headed, be selfish, stick 2 fingers up at the world and push back.

We all - well most of us - like to think we're "good" people.  We've all heard the pearls of wisdom about being "good" and sharing and looking after other people and looking out and up and being positive.  These pearls of wisdom never seem to say anything about being selfish, and yet the self is what we all have to take care of. Others may feed and nourish us, greater beings may guide us, but we alone are responsible for our own bodies, souls or any other version of the human entity we wish to consider.  Without looking after number one, we aren't a lot of use to anyone else are we?  Remembering to be selfish is a good thing and we shouldn't be afraid of anyone or any group telling us it isn't.
