Because they're proud that I'm not afraid to shape my own life.
Because I know they're still going to be there for me.
Because we love each other, and loving one another means letting the other be happy and giving people freedom to do what they want to do.

I'm ceaselessly amazed by the number of Chinese I meet and speak to who can't comprehend this. The look of total incomprehension on people's faces is a wonderful example of a simple cultural difference.
