Christmas is a time of year for icons.  I was at my most and least iconoclastic this year, managing to be in a casino and a cathedral on christmas day.  Oh and then there was the beach and the hospital check-up to boot.  It was all wonderfully entertaining and more than anything else it was a huge relief to be able to take a break from the grind that work has become recently.

The holiday has been a little unusual, what with the unexpected school trip giving me a couple of extra days grace. Suddenly there were 3 days without any work, the weather was fantastic and even having to travel on Christmas Day itself to be back in time for work on the 26th didn't dampen things.

In addition to having a lovely time hanging out with Michelle, I also found a new retreat in Macau. I think it's a great place with a much more pronounced cultural contrast than Hong Kong and life really is slow in the true Southern European style.  It's certainly as easy to get to Macau as it is to go from Hong Kong from my current home.  The beautiful beaches on the back of the islands sealed it for me I have to say.

Maybe, all my future Christmases will be as unconventional as this one. I certainly didn't find this in any way, shape or form inferior.  Maybe an annual visit to the casino......once the priests have solved the mystery of the missing infant in the cathedral nativity scene. True to the story, baby Jesus doesn't arrive until after midnight, although he arrives in a priest's arms rather than courtesy of any conventional birthing method.

Happy Christmas whatever you did!
