All I can hear are a few nondescript whistles, the therapeutic chirruping of the birds and the rustle of the wind. Everything else is silent. Above me the clouds are strewn and scattered like pieces of torn up newspaper paper after the wet and blustery afternoon. It's 19.45 and the last watery sunshine of the day is trying to make a welcome appearance. An aircraft passing soundlessly above me is the only sign of human life or movement. After a Sunday in the office it's great to stand outside and soak up the space and silence of my surroundings.

The strange thing about all this is that I'm stood on a London railway station surrounded by 12 or 13 million people, and yet I can't hear anything that would tell me they're there. I can see buildings of all shapes and sizes, but no people. London might be a global economic powerhouse active at all times of the day and night, but it still sleeps at the weekend. For all the talk of 24/7, it is still not a reality here - yet!

A reason to blog
Re-reading this almost 2 years later it reminds me of a great reason to blog. This may not be amazing or insightful writing, but the day and the moment came back to me ever so clearly. I've trapped a moment in time, a part of my life will always be different.
