I swear I would never dream of coming to this city on holiday, yet I've been here 10 days and enjoyed myself immensely because of the people I know here. It's been nice to hang out with so many friends, to eat so well so often, and to just feel myself relaxing. I feel a lot better both physically and mentally than when I got here and that's what holidays and travelling are for. Sometimes we run from end to end of the earth enjoying the thrill of being on the move and meeting new adventures and people, and yet at other times the simpler things such as quality time with people, being cared for and caring for them are much more valuable and are worth every second of the time you invest in them.

I'm happy, and the weather might just be a little part of that too. It's nice to be warm, even sticky and sweaty after a dark winter in the UK. Never did I think this more than on my last afternoon here, sitting on the balcony in the sun with a cold beer and chatting with Sam. This was relaxed, but I was also gently cooking, the thin layer of smog above providing an alternative UV filter. That afternoon was killing time before my night bus, but it drifted on wonderfully. Again dinner was great, and although there was no single amazing event, I'll remember it a long time, just because I was so very warm, relaxed and close to my friends.
