It's holiday time! Just a couple of weeks and I'm off to China again. Visa acquired, the penny's starting to drop that I'm going to be busy (like really busy) before I go, and I need to be ready to leave in a hurry, and there are lots of things I should sort out, and it's exciting and... why worry, I going to have so much more fun flying away and trekking around on holiday again than I will do working here. And it's going to be hot - better add suncream to the list of things to sort out, oh and mozzies, so some toxic repellant etc.

It's strange to have done this several times before and yet to find the preparation so fresh and exciting every time. Even the simple things and minor logistics are stimulating and each fuels the imagination. I feel better just because I'm going to go and get on that big plane and head south. It is of course, every traveller's burden to carry your expectations, but it's fun to shape and re-shape them in my mind, even the unsavoury ones like remembering that last time I was in China rehydration salts would have been useful had I remembered to take any.

At some point there will be the labour of love that is packing a backpack, stripping out half the stuff you thought you were going to take and remembering that they do actually have clothing shops and laundry's in the places you're going to visit should you need to use them. In a strange way, I'm looking forward to turning the piles of must takes, should takes and might takes into an easy to carry package more than anything else. When the pack gets packed, then I'm really on holiday! I can't wait.
