The lights of this amazing city flash and flicker for as far as my eye can see, and it's quite relaxing to stand and watch the view. Granted, this is not the grandstand view of Victoria Harbour that would have made this by far the most spectacular men's urinal in the World, but peeing over downtown Kowloon still takes some beating. There's definitely something of little boy's humour about the whole design and the pleasure we gents take from enjoying our view, but given that it's pleasantly memorable, it can't be a bad thing. For this reason alone, the famous bar atop the imperial decadence of the Peninsula hotel is worth a visit. It's an interesting mix of local trendy types, visiting businessmen and unmistakable backpacker tourists who've obviously made an effort to spruce themselves up for a night out in Hong Kong.

Moving away from the bewildering away of the most expensive designer boutiques at the foot of The Peninsula, I love to wander in and out of the streets along Nathan Road. It's a bit of a shopper's tourist trap, and yet, apart from the guys touting "genuine fake watches" on the street, it's not really in your face and you feel that this is an integral part of the city. As you wander further North beyond the quiet Kowloon Park and then into the night markets beyond, you're into the local life of a vibrant, living city which is fascinating to behold with all manner of things to buy. Even after mainland China, the food markets of Kowloon take some believing, as do the medicine shops. I saw many things dead and alive that I couldn't ever identify.
