Pre Blog

The main reason we are here is to represent Harrogate the Twin town of Harrogate in the local fesival of flowers

Here is the link to the local festivities happening this weekend

Live Blog

An early morning awake at 8am and after 33 guys fighting for 4 showers people starting to appear for breakfast.

After the drizzle of last night it is not raining this morning but the sky's are full of grey clouds with the view from the gite down to the village quite spectacular with clouds hanging over the village but covering the mountain below us ( see pictures)

Mark our intrepid driver then wound the coach up the narrow windy roads to valley d'lese amongst high cliffs and wood lined valley sides. Here we were presented with a 200 foot waterfall in which the guys managed to avoid throwing themselves in, although they did go scrambling over the rocks.

Well the big day has arrived and we are congregating at the railway station with all the flower floats, with bands and groups appearing. Ali King is charming the young ladies from the Spanish contingent in full costume. His quote of the day " if you let me play your casternets I will let you blow my instrument !!!" nice one Ali.

And what a big day it is with around z20 decretive floats all covered in flowers dispersed in between with bands. The march is the longest yet that tewit has done in 30 years. The length of Friday night but repeat the last mile three times !!!

With full sun and hot temperatures the band marched for over 3 hours and playing all the time !!!!

With huge crowds up to 10 deep the atmosphere was like nothing tewit has ever seen.

After one or two circuits everytime floats passed each other in opposite directions flowers from the floats were thrown at each other, soon the whole crowd, bands and floats were having a mass flower fight including flowers being thrown down the tubas and euphs whilst we marched !!

Despite the band marching for three hours they played amazingly well with huge applause.

An evening meal after the statutory game of football saw the band back down into town to soak up the atmosphere before finally returning to the gite around midnight.

After a few items of bedding clothes and personal items (including dan ) being chucked out of the window (toothbrush never found) the guys finally quietened down.
