Where I stayed
Mercure Bali Harvestland Kuta
A fast speed boat ( 2 hours) sees us speeding back across the bay from the Gili Islands off Lombok back to Bali where we are transfered to our final hotel just outside Denpasar.
Last day of soaking up the sun
Well we woke up refreshed and had a last fantastic breakfast on the shores of the sea (bacon, eggs and fresh orange) and then set off for the short amble down to the harbour (well 100 feet to a sandy beach !!!)
After checking in our high speed boat appeared (see picture) and we clambered aboard, after a quick stop over on Lombok to pickup some extra passengers we then set out for Bali
After an air conditioned car transfer we have arrived back in the south of Bali staying at the hotel mercure. It's strange staying in an international hotel chain with standard room layout but at least the view from the room overlooking the pool and beyond still makes us still realise we are in Bali. I must admit the room is nice with all the extras including slippers, dressing gowns etc etc
Slight mix up on the room with one double bed (should have had an extra single bed added) but in true Balanese style as the staff are so friendly and efficient, within seconds Helen had her own room !!
We are now all three of us laying on our bed in the air con letting our stomachs settle before having a final wander around outside
After a bit of research I found on the map the beach area around 5km away from the hotel with a large modern shopping mall called discovery centre. We thought we would head there and fine a seaside cafe to sit in. Using a taxsi (taxi) to take us the 15 minutes cost 28500 rp (£2) on arrival we were shocked to see a completely modern huge structure with guess what... Marks & spencers, top shop, la senza and all the other top European brands... All the prices were more than the uk !!
After walking through the complex we came to the beach and found a restaurant that served a rather disappointing mie goreng and nasi goreng...
Let's go back to the hotel and look forward to tomorrow and remember the past two weeks.
