Tour Blog

Lovina is famous for the dolphins that patrol its coast, and is a great place for fine food, traditional massage or a big night out.

Our time in Lovina provides plenty of opportunities to explore this area - perhaps a dawn trip by outrigger boat to watch the dolphins come into the bay.

Enjoy a day of snorkelling on a Menjangan Island reef, a short boat ride from the coast. This pristine island and its coral reefs are part of the Bali Barat National Park.

my blog

Omg is this a holiday more like a boot camp, for the second day running we are up before the cockerel crows. It's pitch black outside and after yesterday's mammoth we could have done with a lie in but no this is not a beach holiday it's an adventure holiday, so with a short walk round to the beach we jump into log boats (4 in each) and with an outboard motor we shoot across the bay in search if dolphins ' as the sun rose (yet another orange glow) we came across pods of dolphins all jumping and swimming !!!! Up close and personal as they buzzed our canoe !

Apparently there was a small earth quake last night, our guide apparently went down to the beach to make sure that the water was not going out and a tsunami was on it's way !!! Different way of life !

Anyway none came and after a quick breakfast. (eggs again) we jumped to the minibuses and had a 2 hour trip across Bali to the west coast ( what a delightful journey so much to see, such basic living conditions. The smells however are amazing with cloves, peppers, and all sorts of spices all laid out on the floor wafting their aromas around.) after picking up 'a Bali' the equivalent of a Macdonalds (a tray with various types of rice noodles veg dishes chicken and the obligatory boiled egg) all cooked with chillies from a streetside vendor (mmm hope stomach will be ok) we jumped on a boat and had a 1 hour transfer to a nearby small island for snorkling.

As i mentioned before the island is getting ready for independence day celebrations and everywhere you go flags banners bunting is going up and we are passing more and more groups of children in full uniform marching down the street.

Sorry today's blog will continue later as we have to be out for tea in 15 mins and I need to have a shower and put some after sun on !!!

The snorkelling was amazing, the sun was out and there was a reef full of amazing fish and coral, much better than Thailand, after around 30 feet the reef suddenly dropped off to what appeared to be a bottomless pit and the life down there was completely different - larger fish. We saw some amazing blue star fish. After a long 2 hour swim the boat moved and we had another swim in a different area jumping from the boat. A fantastic experience.

On the way back to the hotel we called at some holy springs with warm volcanic water spouting out of the rock the water heavily with sulphur which seemed to change all White clothes yellow !!

A quick change around back at the hotel applying anti sun to sunburnt areas - snorkelling in hot sun is not good !!! We then went out with our guide robino he had arranged a meal with a local.

We sat on the beach at a table and she produced a huge amount of different local cuisine dishes !!! Wow !!! Amazing. This lady apparently lost her house on the tsunami a few years ago and intrepid helped her rebuild her house and now provides here income once a week providing a meal to intrepid visitors. What a success story and also amazing food, the best yet !

Sleep !!!!! After two days totally on the move we are dead... Best day yet !
