This morning we do some sight seeing !!!  We will visit the Amber Fort and then head out into the desert for a 3-4 hour drive to Pushkar and settle into our first nights camping under the desert stars !

After a fantastic nights sleep and waking up to paradise we settled into a well laid on breakfast including Heinz beans !  A short bus ride saw us arrive at the Amber fort with the last 1/2 mile by crummy landrover. We were all a bit disappointed that the Elephant ride was cancelled, maybe our local guide realised he could not get all the carpet, diamond and other shops into the day of which he was relying on commissions !!! - (sorry being a bit sarcic !)

What an amazing place the amber fort is, with all the hills around supporting what l looks like the great wall of china. After a tour of the rooms of the 12 wives of the maharaja we found Rons ability to attract every beggar and sales person selling everything including the kitchen sink. He just seemed to be a magnet !!! Great entertainment was had by all during every stop !!! After a very filling lunch stop (byriani and nan) we stopped at a couple of shops including diamonds, carpets and other merchandise - Matthew was wondering about getting a suit made !

Very proud of Liz who managed to finally master the art of bartering and haggled the vendor down to her price for a turban !

Afternoon saw us visit the royal observatory where we met a couple with their young daughter who they had come to read the horoscopes to find the match for her future arranged marriage - she must have only been in her early teens, what a different culture ! After testing out all the clocks for accuracy we had a fleeting visit around the grand palace including some very strange polo (horse) clothing.

As the sun is now setting and as I type we are heading further west towards Pushka and our tents for tonight. This journey of around 4 hours seems less hectic as we leave behind the hussle and bussle of the major cities, the roads seem quieter and better built, even with flowers and bushes in the central reservation. (actually it resorted back to the norm after the first hour !!!)

Everyone seems relaxed but there seemed to be a census of getting going on the bikes rather than sightseeing, well after our first camp tonight we are straight into the cycling in the morning....

Good luck everyone

Glad you enjoyed Jaipur. How are you managing to ride your bicycle with a carpet across the handlebars?

The biyriani and nan sounds great - not to mention Heinz beans! - should give more pedal power!
Adele - if you come across a silk pashmini and have a spare corner to carry it, I'll pay you for it!... I would like a baby elephant as well but it won't ride well on the handle bars!
Good luck guys, hope you've remembered the liniment, you'll probably need it tonight. x
